They are more than just mamas, they are the pups that snooze in our living room and play in our backyard, they take walks and hikes with us and of course they all receive lots of snuggles. OFAs
Each of our dogs must pass OFA elbow prelims at Wellington Veterinary Hospital. Since OFA elbow certification cannot be done until 24 months of age, we choose to do OFA elbow prelims to give us an idea of how the dog's elbows are.
PennHip
Because we choose to breed our dogs before they reach 24 months of age, we decided to opts for PennHip instead of OFA since it can be performed earlier. There are pros and cons to each hip test, but we believe that PennHip is an accurate examination that will give us the information we need.
DNA panel
We test our dogs with both Embark and Animal Genetics. Embarks tests for over 120 genetic disease plus it tells us what we need to know about the dog's coat so that we can make the proper pairing. Animal Genetics tests for one specific variant that is relevant to Bernese, that is not tested for by Embark.
